Lots of good news on the Hudson Valley restaurant scene, with new openings in Poughkeepsie and Marlboro.
Cathryn Fadde, the owner of Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill in Cold Spring, has opened a northern outpost called Perch in Marlboro. The restaurant is located in the space that most recently housed Cibo Noche (and earlier, The Brickhouse) at 1 King Street. The beer list focuses on local Hudson Valley breweries, offering flights from Newburgh Brewing, Millhouse Brewing (Poughkeepsie), Peekskill Brewing, and an unfiltered cider from Hudson Valley Ciderhouse. The website is not yet active at this writing. You can view their Facebook page here, or call for hours at 845-236-3663.
Across the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, it has only been one month since Rob Rolison was elected Mayor, and things are already looking up on Main Street!
Pascall Graff, owner of Bouchon in Cold Spring and Brasserie de Paris in Hoboken has opened a bistro style gastro pub at 302 Main Street Poughkeepsie, directly across the street from Artist’s Palate.
Rabbit & Turtle Pub | Restaurant offers two distinct menus, a small plate pub menu in addition to a ($50) four-course or ($60) five-course tasting menu in the dining room. A separate cozy “whiskey bar” is being readied in the lower level. The website is not active as of this writing, but you can view the menus on the restaurant’s Facebook page. The restaurant’s phone number is 845-345-9964.
Across Main Street at Artist’s Palate, owners Charlie and Megan Fells have taken over Brasserie 292 one block west. I am told that Megan will focus on Artist’s Palate (reviewed here), while Charlie puts his own considerable talents to work revitalizing the brasserie.
We stopped in for dinner last week, and his efforts are already paying off. A new winter menu is on tap for December. Chef Fells treated us to a sample of a fantastic house cured duck prosciutto while we dunked our way through a bowl of moules frites and a platter of duck confit which was even better than I remember it (and the frites are still great!)
